This was an entry that I did for the European playstation forums.

The idea was to create a character which would fit into the game of Folklore, and the producer of Devil May Cry, Onimusha and Resident Evil would judge all entries and then choose the winners (1st place of which, was to have your creature made as a playable folk for the game).

The winner and runner up's also got a free copy of the game, and a Folklore Goodie Bag.

Needless to say, Iw asn't even a runner up, but I gave it a good try, and these were the details that I put for my character, Voodox:

Voodox: In"folk"ational (see what I did there?) information in depth:

Once an experienced voodoo priest in the realm of the living, this folk is restless, and loiters around the Netherworld manipulating and toying with its foe. It uses its right hand to produce a levitating sphere, allowing a flame to engulf it, giving off a mysterious purple glow. This is how it activates its possession typed ability, and once done the target is rendered paralyzed.

Voodox then controls the innocent looking, but strung up puppet with its left hand. This will then control your movements, much like the folklore behind voodoo dolls.

Voodox' tactics:

Its favourite tactic is forcing the player to run into a group of folk, where the player is then left open for attack. However, Voodox is very unpredictable and has been widely known to do the same to other folk, turning them on one another.

Player tactic:

Wait for Voodox to manipulate other folk, leaving it open for an attack. Now's your chance to deal some damage!

Voodox' abilities:

Manipulation - With the ignition of a flaming sphere in its right hand and the controlling of the strung up puppet in its left hand, Voodox will manipulate the player and sometimes other folk for 3-5 seconds, controlling them to move wherever it pleases.

Pushover - If you move the player too close to Voodox, it will push you onto the floor and run away, dealing minor damage to you.

Stance - This isn't an attack as such, but more a mockery to the player. Voodox will take a bow, and then run off to find a hiding place, sometimes disappearing from the current area altogether.

Players ability:

Once you have defeated Voodox, you gain the ability to manipulate up to five targets at once. This automatically triggers the folk to turn on one another, giving you the chance to take them out in their now weakened state.

Drawbacks:

This uses up two thirds of your Magic Consumption, doesn't effect bosses, and only lasts for a limited amount of time (usually varying from 3-5 seconds).

This is what the submitted version looked like:

It took about 200 layers to make, colour and detail, and countless hours (though I don't know how many, but it doesn't really matter).

My favourite part is the rag doll. I tried to make it look furry, and it didn't come out too badly in the end. :D

So, hopefully I'm improving on my colouring. Asked around on here for tips and advice, but have had no luck so far, so am trying to teach myself.

It was drawn on paper, and then coloured in Adobe Photoshop CS2 with a mouse, as I have no money for a Wacom tablet. :(

Anyway, comments are welcome. Thanks a lot. :)

Ooh, I love the puppet! I especially like the right hand as well, haha, I'm not sure why. Anyway, this is great - and absolutely amazing considering you had to use a mouse to do all the colouring :wow:

I really did like that design. To be honest it's rather a shame they didn't use it. Just the right level of darkness and fantasy. You got the balance just right.

Yea, cheers mate. Was quite a bit letdown by that, as I felt it'd be my lucky break, and where I would finally get some motivation, but nope.

Not too fussed that I lost, considering I got beaten by someone who had more talent than I, but I was a bit disappointed, as some of the runner up's weren't really that worthy, and then you have some of the morons on the forum say it's pants......bla bla bla.

I liked it, and I do normally like my own stuff, so I guess that's all that matters at the end of the day.

Thanks for the cool comment though dude. I'll try and keep at this art, and see if I can take it further.

I meant "don't usually like my own stuff" lol. Almost sounded arrogant then.
